The managing director for Vodacom Tanzania, Rene Meza, has recently announced that his company will be investing nearly USD 100 million over the next twelve to eighteen months in improvements to the company’s mobile data business, new upgrades to network operations, agency recruitment, new technologies, new corporate services offerings and further development of the company’s financial distribution plan.

According to a recent Bloomberg Businessweek report, Tanzania telecommunications companies are currently working with the government in order to begin paying fees in shillings, which, according to Vodacom Group Ltd., will offset the currency volatility and ensure investment.

During the recent launching workshop for a project on capacity building and the effective use and management of Tanzania ICT (Information Communications Technology) resources within the public sector, the Director of Human Resources for the office of President Jakaya Kikwete, Faisal Issa, indicated that there is currently a need for further expertise and well trained professionals in the area of ICT within the public sector in order to ensure the smooth execution of e-government within the country.

According to a report by the Daily News, following its recent nomination as Tanzania's Most Respected Company of 2009, the mobile phone operator, Zain Tanzania, was recently presented with the prestigious award at a gala dinner that was held in Nairobi and was given to the managing director of Zain Tanzania, Khaled Muhtadi, by the senior partner for PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC), Leonard Mususa.
