The Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Company (CCECC) has been granted a USD 5 million contract to build 90 new 50 ton container open wagons for the regional Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (Tazara), a project that is expected to be completed in eight months.

According to a statement that was recently released by the US embassy in Tanzania, a contract has been signed to begin the process of upgrading the 65km stretch of road that runs between Tanga and Horohoro, thus marking the first for road of the Tanzania transport system that will be upgraded using finances from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Fly540 Tanzania, which promotes itself as Africa's first low cost carrier, first began operating low cost flights in the Tanzania transport sector in July 2009 and is currently preparing to introduce three weekly flights between Mwanza and Nairobi early next week.

The East African Business Week (EABW) has recently published an announcement by the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) which indicated that the private sector investors Hutchicon Ports Holdings, TICTS and Wai Chau will invest USD 60 million in the authority over the next five years in an effort to ease congestion at its ports and assist it in its port operations.
