REX ATTORNEYS (“REX”) is a firm enjoying a noticeable and prominent presence in the private legal practice in Tanzania. It was established on 1st February, 2006 following the merger of Maajar, Rwechungura, Nguluma & Makani (Advocates) (MRN&M Advocates) whose history goes back to 1991 and Epitome Advocates whose history goes back to 1997.

The merger saw portfolio growth, with a new, larger and broad-spectrum clientele base drawing on the entire goodwill built by MRN&M Advocates and Epitome Advocates.

The firm is supported by an international consultant, Mr. James Friedlander.

REX has a good track record in capital markets and securities transactions in Tanzania. The firm has rendered services as legal adviser in a majority of the listings on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE).

Copyright, Intellectual Property and Media Law:
REX handles applications for registration and renewal of trademarks and patents and gives advisory services to clients in respect of IP related contentious and non-contentious matters, such as licensing and franchising, trademark infringement, passing off.

Employment & Industrial Relations Law:
REX provides services to its corporate clients in respect of employment and industrial relations law including but not limited to:
Advising clients in establishing employment policies.

Insolvency: Liquidations and Receiverships:
The firm has solid experience derived from many high profile receivership/liquidation projects, prominent among them being:-
Receivership of Kibo Match Corporation Limited.
Receivership of twelve (12) Regional Trading Companies and one (1) pharmaceutical corporation.
Receivership of Zanzibar Sea Ferries.

Advised clients on tax issues including but not limited to VAT, Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Withholding Taxes, Custom and Excise Duties, Stamp Duty, Levy and Cess Charges.
Part of the team that developed the Tanzania Revenue Authority legal regime.
