Tanzania Travel and Tourism Fair Set for June

The Tanzania travel industry is preparing to host its annual outdoor safari event, which typically attracts industry partners from around the world, Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair. 

Currently, this tourism event, which is the largest of its kind in East Africa, is scheduled to be held between June 5 and 7 just outside of Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania.

The Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair is an annual event that is organized by the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators in association with the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT) as well as Galileo Tanzania, Travel Africa Magazine, Gallery Tours and Wild Footprints Ltd.

In a recent report by Travel Daily News, the Minister of natural resources, the Hon. Shamsa Mwangunga, indicated that this event was playing a significant role in the development of the Tanzania tourism industry.

“We are proud that with the success of the Karibu Travel and Tourism Fair, Tanzania is playing a major role in developing tourism to the region,” said Hon. Mwangunga, “The Fair also provides Tanzania an opportunity to showcase its world famous tourism product, its rich cultural heritage and the warm hospitality of its people.”

The theme for this year’s event is entitled ‘Sustainable Partnerships’ and, in addition to the exhibitions from Tanzania, exhibitions from various countries including Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda as well as international visitors from the USA, Europe, Asia and Australia will also be featured.

A recent report from the Daily News, organizers of the even have indicated that the even is anticipating more than 250 exhibitors and thousands of regional and international visitors to be in attendance.

Among those in attendance will be travel industry suppliers such as tour operators, tourist boards, hoteliers and support service representatives as well as equipment manufacturers.

According to Peter Mwenguo, the managing Director of the TTB, the event is specifically hoping to attract travel agents from the US.

“Since America is Tanzania’s number one source market for tourists, we are making a major effort to attract more travel agents from the US market,” said Mr. Mwenguo.

Mr. Mwengo went on to indicate that the organizers of the event are preparing special offers in order to attract these agents.

“There are currently over 1000 qualified Tanzania Travel Agent Specialists in the US and we hope to encourage them to participate buy offering special pre and post safaris,” said Mr. Mwenguo, “This year, for the first time, Karibu is offering a pre-fair safari for agents to the Southern Circuit.”
