Tanzania Receives USD 210 Million for Road Upgrade from World Bank

Tanzania is due to receive USD 210 Million by the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) to upgrade the highway connecting Mafinga and Igawa, in the Iringa and Mbeya regions.

The Highway was upgraded in 1972 to bitumen standard.

Since then the road has deteriorated drastically due to pavement ageing.

The loan will also be used to upgrade the Songwe-Kasumulu roads to foster Tanzanian trade with neighbouring countries.

Tanzania Invests Over TZS 429 Billion in Tanga Port Expansion, Doubling its Capacity

The Government of Tanzania has invested more than TZS 429 billion in the Port of Tanga expansion, raising annual capacity to 3 million metric tonnes from 0.75 million and enabling it to receive larger vessels. The Minister of Finance also cited progress on the Tanga–Arusha–Musoma SGR, Tanga Airport and regional roads.

DP World Cuts Dar es Salaam Port Vessel Discharge Time by Over 90%

DP World has cut vessel discharge time at the Port of Dar es Salaam by more than 90%, from over 300 hours to less than 28 hours, two years into its 30-year concession. The operator has committed to invest more than USD 500 million and now employs over 2,900 Tanzanians at the terminal.

Tanzania Signs Nine PPP Contracts for DART, Ports and TAZARA Railway

Tanzania has signed nine public-private partnership (PPP) contracts as of June 2026, as it uses the model to accelerate major strategic projects, improve public services, and attract investment. The contracts cover the Dar es Salaam Rapid Transit (DART) system, mandatory motor vehicle inspection, the Kariakoo commercial building, the TAZARA railway, and the operation of the Dar es Salaam Port through DP World and Adani.

Dodoma Msalato International Airport Set to Begin Operations in September 2026

Msalato International Airport in Dodoma is scheduled to begin operations in September 2026 as construction advances toward completion. The airport will have the capacity to handle 1.5 million passengers annually and is expected to strengthen domestic and international air connectivity while supporting investment and economic activity in Tanzania's capital.
