Tanzania National Parks to Receive TZS 5 Billion

Contrary to the rumours of potential privatization of Tanzanian national parks, the government will invest over TZN 5 billion in 2014 in improving the so-called Tanzania Southern Circuit.

Mr Pashal Shelute, Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) Public Relations Manager, released a statement saying that TANAPA is fully capable of running the National Parks and would continue to do so with the help of the government and other investors.

Accrding to Mr Shelute: “TANAPA will be reinforcing and improving activities at Katavi and other southern parks such as Ruaha, Saadani and Mikumi in efforts to improve services in the Southern Circuit”.

TANAPA currently successfully runs 16 national parks, with the last one – Saanane, added just in July of 2013.

In 2013 Tanzanian National Parks have won the Special Achievement in GIS award, presented by the Environmental Sciences Research Institute (ESRI).
