The President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. John Magufuli has confirmed on March 13th, 2016, Mr. Alphayo Kidata as Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenues Authority (TRA) and Mr. Valentino Mlowola as Director General of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB).

Kidata and Mlowola were until now Acting Commissioner General and Acting Director General of the institutions, following abrupt removal of their predecessors by President Magufuli after he assumed office as Tanzania’s 4th President in November 2015.

Mr. Kidata recently announced that a total of TZS 1.79 trillion in tax revenues were collected by TRA in January, 2016, which are almost in line with the goal of collecting at least TZS 2 trillion per month.

According to Tanzania’s 2016/2017 draft budget recently discussed by the Minister of Finance and Planning Philip Mpango, estimated expenditures are expected to rise to TZS 22.99 trillion up from TZS 22.4 trillion in 2016/2015 and are to be covered exclusively by tax revenues.

In a statement to the press in January 2016 by Mr. Mlowola “Tanzania’s fifth phase government is committed to truly eliminate the problem of corruption in the country.”
