SUNREF USD 11 Million Credit for Tanzania Renewables Launched

SUNREF USD 11 million credit facility has been launched in Tanzania on 24 February in Dar-es-Salaam to finance renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in the country, through Bank of Africa Tanzania.

In November 28, 2016 The French Development Agency (AFD) approved a USD12m credit line to the Bank to finance renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Tanzania.

SUNREF, AFD green finance label, which already operates in Kenya and in Uganda in East Africa, promotes the development of a low carbon economy through the development of tailor-made credit for enterprises looking to invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

AFD supports local banks in identifying green investment opportunities and in allocating green loans with favorable conditions for tailor-made debt.

Aliko Dangote has committed to building a 650,000 barrels per day oil refinery at the Port of Tanga, Tanzania, modelled on his USD 20 billion Lagos plant and to be delivered within four to five years, subject to government agreement. The Tanzania oil refinery would process crude from the DRC, Kenya, South Sudan, and Uganda, supported by a new pipeline linking Mombasa to Tanga and connecting to the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
