The Finland Embassy in Tanzania is supporting the development of tourism in the northern district of Mwanga by donating EUR 50,000 to Tanzania Environmental and Tourism Educational Organization (TETEO).
TETEO launched a nature-based tourism organisation in Mwanga endorsed by the Tanzania Tourism Board (TTB) which involves local pot-making and weaving.
The Executive Director of TETEO, Mr. Ally Makiady said at the launch event of the organisation that this latest initiative has the potential to offer opportunities for the locals to improve their livelihood through tourism.
Mr. Geofrey Tengeneza, an official from TTB admired that the initiative involved the public and local government as well as the private sector in the district.
The Finnish Ambassador to Tanzania Mrs. Sinikka Antila, said recently to local media that “I am glad that all of us are celebrating the success story of the Mwanga community based nature tourism.”
Mwanga is one of the seven districts of the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania and is included in the renowned tourism northern circuit of Tanzania.
The Tourism master plan of the Mwanga District indicates a focus on the development of sustainable eco tourism.
