Fastjet Launches into Tanzanian Airspace

Fastjet, Africa’s first low-cost carrier, made ticket available on sale for its first flight tacking place at the end of the month.

Fares from Dar es Salaam airport starts at TSH 32,000 which corresponds to about USD 20, plus taxes.

For this price travelers can fly to Mwanza and to Kilimnajaro in the north of the country. Zanzibar island root is to be opened soon.

However Fastjet has regional ambitions as stated by its Chief Executive Ed Winter: “Our initial focus will be on East Africa with the airline’s first base at Dar es Salaam. This will be followed by a second base in Nairobi, Kenya. We look forward to bringing a great, reliable and affordable service to the people of East Africa.”

Once established in East Africa, FastJet has plans to launch in Accra, Ghana and Luanda in Angola.

The airline which now has three Airbus A319s as part of its fleet, is the brainchild of the Greek entrepreneur Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of EasyJet, one of the earliest and most successful low-cost air carriers in Europe.
