Tanzania to Double Seeds Production by 2015

The Tanzanian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives announced a plan to double seeds production, from current 30,000 to 60,000 tonnes, by 2015.

The plan will be achieved via an agreement in place with the Clinton Development Initiative (CDI).

The focus of the plan will be the production of maize and garden crops seeds.

The Tanzanian market is currently heavily based on imported seeds, mainly because of local poor productivity.

Tanzania and Malawi Target Value Addition and Regional Supply Chains to Expand Bilateral Trade, Starting With Soy

Tanzania and Malawi are targeting value addition and regional supply chains to expand bilateral trade, with each country's investment authority opening projects to the other's investors at the 3rd Malawi-Tanzania Investment and Trade Forum in Dar es Salaam. Tanzania exports USD 89.46 million to Malawi against USD 15.169 million in imports, with USD 6 million of immediate export openings identified, 31% of bilateral export potential untapped, and Malawian soy processed by Tanzanian industry cited as the model value chain.

Tanzania to Allocate 6 Million Hectares of Grazing Land for Livestock Keepers by 2030

Tanzania plans to set aside, survey and title six million hectares of grazing land nationwide by 2030 to resolve farmer-herder conflicts. More than 3.6 million hectares have already been allocated for livestock, including 1.3 million hectares gazetted across 365 villages in 2025/26.

Tanzania’s fisheries sector grew 6.30% in 2025, with production reaching 519,454 tonnes and output value climbing to TZS 4.56 trillion. The sector’s contribution to GDP hit a record 2.20%, though fish exports fell to 45,053 tonnes in 2025, down 24.59% from 59,746 tonnes in 2024, and export value declined 14.15% to TZS 649 billion from TZS 756 billion.

Tanzania and Qatar to Deepen Livestock and Fisheries Investment Cooperation

Tanzania has invited Qatar's Thirty-Five Investment Holding to invest in livestock and fisheries, from meat production to the completed Kilwa Masoko Fishing Port. Meat exports have risen from about 1,000 metric tonnes in 2021 to nearly 15,000, with a target of at least 50,000 tonnes per year.
