Golf Tourism in Tanzania on the Rise

According to a recent article by Ethiosports Magazine, Tanzania is capable of becoming the top destination in East Africa for golf tourism.

Tanzania has fewer golf courses than the continent’s leading South Africa, however the country’s unparalleled natural beauty and superb hospitality industry make it an excellent investment opportunity in golf tourism.

Arusha’s recently built Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate is an 18-hole championship layout course with a backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro that draws high revenues and creates employment for many local Tanzanians.

Estimates by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators report that the golf tourism industry is worth well over US$17 billion and according to its president, Peter Walton, “There are 54-million golfers worldwide, of which 25% will definitely take golf holidays in the next 12 months and spend 120% more per day in their destination than a general leisure tourist. Golf is not an amenity or an excursion but a primary driver of incremental tourism.”
