Tanzania Telecoms Network Reduces Tariffs

The Tanzania telecoms sector has recently seen a drastic reduction in tariff costs in one of the country’s cellular communications networks, TIGO Tanzania Limited.

This reduction in costs comes as a result of the launch of a new promotional drive by the company, which is a subsidiary cellular network of Millicom International Cellular (MIC), in order to attract new business and to reward its current subscribers for their loyalty.

TIGO is a relatively successful high-tech cellular network in Tanzania that operates using the stated principles of affordability, accessibility and availability as the mission statement and overall vision for the company.

According to the company’s website, TIGO had planned to make 2008 a successful year for the company through aggressive investment into the expansion of their national service coverage, the addition of service locations throughout the country, and through an increase in the overall customer service available to their customers across the country.

With this vision in mind, TIGO officially welcomed the launch of their promotional campaign, known as Longer Longa III, at a ceremony on Coco Beach in Dar es Salaam last Sunday.

During the ceremony for the launch of this new program, which has also effectively been called ‘Longer Longa 24 hours,’ TIGO announced the company’s innovative plan to slash tariff costs for their cellular subscribers by approximately 65 per cent, to a reduced rate of 1 Tsh per second, for continued service throughout the country.

The conception and implementation of this campaign is unique to TIGO, which now stands apart from some of its competitors in the region, as the innovative service that they are now offering to their subscribers is the first of its kind in the country.

“Our goal is to enable every client to enjoy the right to information and communication,” said Mr. Jackson Mmbando, the Public Relations Manager for TIGO, at the launching ceremony.

According to Mr. Mmbando, the new tariff fee is applicable during both the day and the night.

In addition to this new offer, Mr. Mmbando has said that subscribers to the cellular phone company are still able to continue to utilize the other services that the company offers such as Extreme and Extreme SMS.
