Precision Air, the leading air carrier in Tanzania will introduce schedule flights to Mbeya in the southwest of the country.
The company confirmed it will do so as soon as soon as the new Songwe airport opens this month.
The Minister for Transport Hon. Harrison Mwakyembe recently confirmed that the Songwe airport would be inaugurated and receive flights before the end of the year.
Mr Patrick Ndekana, Precision Air Commercial Director indicated that the company will start with a single daily flight, four times a week and will increase frequency based on the evolution of demand.
Precision Air will initially fly with its ATR aircrafts before introducing its Boeing, once the critical passengers volumes is reached and the necessary infrastructure for such plane is in place.
The Songwe airport in Mbeya region will be the fourth international airport in Tanzania after Julius Nyerere, Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar.
It is expected it will greatly impact the region’s economy by allowing international and local investments and tourists inflow.
The region is renowned for its minerals such as coal, gold, iron-ore and gemstones and is rich in tourist attractions such as Ruaha National Park and Katavi as well as Game Reserves.
