Tanzania Launches Electronic System to Improve Fertilizer Distribution

The Tanzania Fertilizer Company has introduced an electronic system and vehicles to enhance fertilizer distribution. The initiatives aim to streamline logistics, lower costs, and improve access to fertilizers for farmers across the country.

The Tanzania Fertilizer Company (TFC) has launched an innovative electronic system and three new vehicles to enhance the efficiency of subsidized fertilizer distribution across the country.

The initiatives aim to reduce logistical challenges, lower transportation costs for farmers, and ensure fertilizers reach even the most remote areas.

The electronic system will allow real-time fertilizer sales and distribution monitoring, enabling data-driven decision-making to improve operational efficiency. The three new vehicles will further strengthen last-mile delivery to farming communities.

The launch event was held on 24th December 2024 at TFC’s headquarters.

“These measures will transform the way fertilizers are delivered to farmers. The electronic system will streamline operations, while the vehicles will make it easier to reach remote farming areas, reducing transportation costs for farmers,” said TFC Managing Director, Mr. Samuel Mshote.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Hussein Mohamed Omar, who officiated the launch, highlighted the importance of the initiatives. “This system ensures transparency and efficiency in fertilizer distribution, directly benefiting farmers and contributing to increased productivity,” he said.

Dr. Omar also urged TFC staff to maximize the government’s investment by working diligently and collaborating with stakeholders to support farmers effectively.

Fertilizer distribution in Tanzania has traditionally faced logistical barriers, with high transportation costs and delays affecting farmers’ access to subsidized fertilizers.

The government, through TFC, has been working to address these challenges as part of broader efforts to boost agricultural productivity and ensure food security.
