Dar Es Salaam Port Increases Capacity To Welcome Larger Vessels

According to the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA), improvements to the Dar es Salaam Port have increased their capacity to welcome larger vessels, including the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Martina.

The Acting Director General of the TPA, Madeni Kipande, explained that the MSC Martina is one of the largest ships to be accommodated by the Port with a length of 244m, width of 32.2m, and a carrying capacity of 2,411 containers.

“The arrival of such large vessels is a major achievement to be recorded by the Tanzania Ports Authority,” he said.

According to the MSC Country Representative, Ahmed Kamal, the state-of-the-art technology at the port has allowed it to more easily accommodate large ships and the company intends to bring more large ships to the country.

“This is our largest ever ship to dock at the Dar es Salaam Port. We plan to bring more large ships to the country,” he said, “We hope to receive large ships with length of 260 meters in March and April this year.”
