Precision Air to Introduce Mbeya Route

Precision Air, the leading Tanzanian air carrier in Tanzania confirmed it will introduce schedule flights to Mbeya in the southwest of the country by January 16th 2013.

Flights will be routed via the new Songwe airport that opened in December 2012.

The company announced that the initial Dar Es Slaam – Songwe route would be served by the new ATR-72 aircraft recently introduced among its fleet.

The air carrier will start to serve Songwe with four flights per week and adjust frequency as the route develops.

The Songwe airport in Mbeya region is the fourth international airport in Tanzania after Dar es Slaam Julius Nyerere, Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar.

The new airport is expected to greatly impact the region’s economy by allowing international and local investments and tourists’ inflow.

The region is renowned for its minerals such as coal, gold, iron-ore and gemstones and is rich in tourist attractions such as Ruaha National Park and Katavi as well as Game Reserves.

Tanzania’s Ministry of Transport outlined achievements recorded during the first 100 days of the government’s second term, including transport of more than 838,000 rail passengers and over 85,000 tonnes of cargo.
