The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has installed a new Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring System in an effort to gather consistent statistics on mobile money (mpesa) transactions.
In an interview with The Guardian Tanzania, the TCRA Communications Manager Innocent Mungy explained that the new service will provide consumers with more affordable tariffs.
“We call upon people to be patient while the TCRA works on the matter and soon the service will be in operation,” he said.
The Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Makame Mbarawa, confirmed tat the new service will allow the government to collect taxes from the service providers and will be free to consumers.
According to the TCRA, a contractor for the mobile number portability service has already been selected and operation of the service is scheduled to begin before the end of 2015.
