Edenville Energy plc (AIM: EDL), the company developing a coal project in southwest Tanzania, announced that on 19 October 2018 the documentation for the Request for Qualification (RFQ) for coal-fired power generation projects in Tanzania was submitted to Tanzania Electricity Supply Company (TANESCO).

This formal process is the initial stage in the selection of projects to provide power to the Tanzanian electricity grid.

A review by TANESCO will now take place to assess applications in order to select those to move to the next stage of the process, although there is no defined time limit for the review.

Endeville’s core asset is the Rukwa coal-fired Project, located in southwestern Tanzania.

In 2016, the company was granted a mining license to develop the Rukwa coalfields by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Tanzania.

Tanzania Coal reserves are estimated at 1.9b t, 25% of which are proven, according to the Tanzania Minerals Audit Agency (TMAA).

Coal is currently exploited in small scale at Kiwira Coal Mine in Mbeya Region and Tancoal Energy Limited Mine at Ngaka in Ruvuma Region.
