Tanzania Survey on Foreign Liabilities: Submission Deadline at End of September 2024

Tanzania Survey Foreign Liabilities 2024

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT), in partnership with the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), has announced a joint survey on companies with foreign liabilities operating within the country.

The survey, which aims to gather essential data for the year 2023, will run from July to September 2024.

This initiative seeks to evaluate the impact of foreign private investments on Tanzania’s domestic economy, update the Balance of Payments (BoP), and enhance the country’s International Investment Position (IIP).

The collected data will also guide the development of policies that support sustainable economic growth.

The survey will focus on gathering information related to both equity and non-equity investments.

Selected companies will be visited by a team of researchers and enumerators who are tasked with collecting financial and operational data.

Companies are required to cooperate fully by:

  • Providing accurate and timely information by completing the survey questionnaires;
  • Supplying audited financial statements for 2023, or where unavailable, provisional or best estimates;
  • Adhering to a one-week deadline for submission of the requested information.

Compliance with the survey is compulsory under Tanzanian law, specifically under the Tanzania Investment Act (Cap 38), Statistics Act (Cap 351), and the Bank of Tanzania Act (Cap 197). The provided data will only be used for statistical purposes and published in aggregate form to ensure confidentiality.

This survey presents an opportunity for investors and companies to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of Tanzania’s economic landscape and the role of foreign investments.

The authorities involved appreciate the cooperation of the business community in making this endeavor a success.

For further details, investors are encouraged to contact the Bank of Tanzania, the National Bureau of Statistics, or the Tanzania Investment Centre.
