Fastjet, Africa’s first low-cost carrier, entered into an agreement with Swissport Tanzania, part of Swissport International, the world’s leading provider of ground handling services to the aviation sector, for the provision of ground handling services in Tanzania.
Ed Winter, Fastjet Chief Executive Officer, showed confidence that Swissport will match the airline expectations by stating that “Swissport has a world-leading reputation and track record for providing high quality ground services to airlines around the world.”
He finds it inevitable to have “a handling partner that gives these qualities top priority and one that also matches our ambitious growth plans for Africa”.
Swissport Tanzania Chief Executive Officer, Gaudence Temu exclaimed that “We are delighted that Fastjet has entrusted Swissport International with their ground handling management in Africa…as for us, Swissport Tanzania, we are looking forward to providing superior, demand driven ground handling services”.
Fastjet started issuing available tickets for sale for its first flight which took place in Tanzania at the end of November 2012.
Established in East Africa, FastJet has plans to launch in Accra, Ghana and Luanda, Angola.
The airline which now has three Airbus A319s as part of its fleet, is the brainchild of the Greek entrepreneur Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of EasyJet, one of the first and most successful low-cost air carriers in Europe.
Swissport International provides ground services in 38 countries to about 650 clients and services 116 million passengers and 3.5 million tons of cargo per annum.
