Low cost airline FastJet Tanzania reported a huge demand for its airline services with passenger load factor standing at 81 per cent having flown 26,387 passengers in February.
“In response to this demand, FastJet is increasing its capacity by 50 per cent and launching two more domestic routes in Tanzania. From March 18 Fastjet will operate daily flights between Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro and Mwanza,” said CEO Ed Winter.
The European owned East African airline which is yet to start operating in Kenya due to licensing issues started operations in Tanzania in November.
FastJet Airline chose Dar es Salaam, Tanzania as its first operating base in East Africa with flights from Julius Nyerere International Airport launched on 29 November 2012.
Currently flights operate successfully between Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro, and between Dar es Salaam and Mwanza.
FastJet’s success in the air transport industry in Tanzania comes as no surprise as East Africa’s fastest growing emerging-market transitions from low to middle-income status, the domestic demand for flights are on the rise together with incoming international travellers who travel locally for business in Tanzania.
