510 Housing Units Projects to Start in Dar es Salaam

The National Housing Corporation (NHC) announced 3 new projects for the development of 510 housing units in Dar e Salaam.

The three projects will be implemented over the next two and half year and are aimed at housing about 3,000 people.

According to NHC strategic plan for 2010/11-2014/15, the current housing deficit in Tanzania is estimated at three million units and growing at a rate of 200,000 units per annum.

The problem is more pronounced in urban areas where the urban population has grown from 14.8% in 1980 to an expected 46.8% by 2015.

The new units are part of NHC strategic objective to develop a minimum of 15,000 houses for sale and lease by June 2015.
