Tanzania Annual Inflation Decrease to 4.5% in September 2016

The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate decreased to 4.5% in September 2016, from 4.9% in August 2016.

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate recorded in September 2016 decreased to 6.0% from 7.0% recorded in August 2016.

The Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home decreased to 6.1% in September 2016 from 7.0% recorded in August 2016.

In addition, the 12-month index change for non-food products decreased to 2.7% in September 2016 from 3.0% in August 2016.

The Annual Inflation Rate, excluding food and energy, fell to 2.4% in September 2016, compared to 2.6% in August 2016.

The purchasing power of 100 Tanzanian Shillings reached TZS97 and 04 cents in September 2016 from December 2015. It was TZS96 and 83 cents in August 2016.

After a peak of 6.8% in December 2015, inflation in Tanzania has been steadily decreasing, reaching 5.1% in April 2016, slightly increasing to 5.5% in June, and again, falling to 5.1% in July, 4.9% in August, and 4.5% in September 2016.
