Tanzania Annual Inflation Slightly Increase to 3.4% in September 2018

TANZANIA INFLATION SEPTEMBER 2018

The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate for September 2018 has slightly increased to 3.4% from 3.3% recorded in August 2018. 

The overall index went up to 112.12 in September 2018 from 108.48 recorded in September 2017.

Food and Non-Food Inflation Rates
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate for the month of September 2018 has further decreased to 2.0% from 2.2% recorded in August 2018.

Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home has also decreased to 3.1% in September 2018 from 3.2% recorded in August 2018.

However, the 12-month index change for non-food products in September 2018 has increased to 4.8% from 4.6% recorded in August 2018.

Inflation Rate Excluding Food and Energy
The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy for the month of September 2018 has increased to 2.2% from 2.0% recorded in August 2018.

Monthly Headline Inflation Rate
The Consumer Price Index from August 2018 to September 2018 has increased by 0.1% compared to a decrease of 0.4% recorded in August 2018 from July 2018.

The overall index has increased to 112.12 in September 2018 from 112.01 recorded in August 2018.

The increase of the overall index is mainly attributed to the price increase of non-food items.

Some non-food items that contributed to such increase include; garments for men by 4.2%, footwear for women by 2.9%, rent by 2.4%, materials for the maintenance and repair of the dwelling by 2.7%, firewood by 6.8% and school books by 1.4%.

Tanzania Inflation Rate Rises to 4% in April 2026 as Fuel and Transport Prices Jump

Tanzania’s inflation rate rose to 4.0% in April 2026 from 3.2% in March 2026, driven by sharp increases in transport costs, fuel prices, and food items.
