GenKey Solutions B.V. (GenKey), a Dutch tech global company working on the field of biometric identity management, has recently announced that it is currently deploying its biometric solutions in Tanzania, to support transparency in the upcoming elections to be held on October 25th, 2015.

The solutions brought are three and they are called GenKey’s Voter ID Management Solution (SPiRE), to securely store, process and retrieve biographic data of individuals; Automated Biometric Identification Solution (ABIS), to set up a fast and accurate identification system; and SPiRE Adjudication, which is a web-based interface that supports the human decision process.

These solutions have helped so far to enroll 24 million eligible Tanzanian voters in the Permanent Voter Register (PVR), as required by the Tanzania’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) which awarded the project to the South Africa-based company Lithotec Exports and which hired GenKey for this task.

According to NEC Chairman Damian Lubuva, the PVR needed to be updated before holding any election since a referendum to be held on April 30th, 2015 needed to be postponed due to the lack of Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits which only let to register voters from one out of 35 regions in the country.

GenKey CEO Michiel van der Veen, expressed in the press release its satisfaction on supporting the NEC to successfully register all the eligible voters in order to ensure credible and transparent elections.
