Tanzania Annual Inflation Increase to 3.7% in June 2019

TANZANIA INFLATION JUNE 2019

The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate for June 2019 has increased to 3.7% from 3.5% recorded in May 2019. 

The overall index went up to 117.03 in June 2019 from 112.81 recorded in June 2018.

Food and Non-Food Inflation Rates
Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate for the month of June 2019 has increased to 2.3% from 2.2% recorded in May 2019.

Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home for the month of June 2019 has increased to 4.3% from 3.9% recorded in May 2019.

On the other hand, the 12 month index change for non-food products in June 2019 has stagnated at 4.7% as it was recorded in May 2019.

Inflation Rate Excluding Food and Energy
The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy for the month of June 2019 has slightly decreased to 3.4% from 3.5% recorded in May 2019.

Monthly Headline Inflation Rate
The Consumer Price Index from May 2019 to June 2019 has decreased by 0.2% compared to an increase of 0.4% recorded from April 2019 to May 2019. T

The overall index has decreased to 117.03 in June 2019 from 117.23 recorded in May 2019.

The decrease of the overall index is mainly attributed to the price decrease for non-food items.

Some non-food items that contributed to such decrease include; gas by 2.1%, charcoal by 2.8%, mobile phones by 3.7%, hand bags by 0.5% and clothing by 0.2%.

Tanzania Inflation Holds at 3.2% in March 2026 as Food Prices Ease

Tanzania's annual headline inflation remained stable at 3.2% in March 2026, unchanged from February, as food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation eased to 5.5% from 5.7% the previous month. The monthly NCPI rose from 122.01 to 123.04, driven by price increases in fresh cassava, Irish potatoes, diesel, and charcoal, while core inflation edged up slightly to 2.2%, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
