The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) reveals that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate for the month of May 2022 has increased to 4% from 3.8% in April 2022.
The overall index went up from 104.22 recorded in May 2021 to 108.42 in May 2022.
Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate for May 2022 has decreased to 5.5% from 6.6% recorded in April 2022.
On the other hand, the Annual Inflation Rate for all items without Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages for May 2022 has increased to 3.4% from 2.6% recorded in April 2022.

Tanzania Monthly Inflation Rate – May 2022
The National Consumer Price Index between April and May 2022 has increased from 107.88 recorded in April 2022 to 108.42 recorded in May 2022.
The increase in the overall index is attributed to the price increase for some food and non-food items.
Some food items that contributed to an increase in the index include: – wheat grains by 1.2%, rice by 1.3%, maize by 3.1%, wheat flours by 4.8%, and maize flour by 3.0%.
On the other hand, some Non-food items that contributed to an increase of the index include: – liquefied hydrocarbons (gas) by 1.0%, kerosene by 13.2%, diesel by 19.6%, petrol by 10.0%, bus fare by 7.4%, taxi fare by 4.7% and motorcycles /bodaboda
fare by 6.4%.
