Investors Develop Islands And Boost Tanzania Tourism Opportunities

Opportunities in the Tanzania tourism sector are set to increase with the selection of two bidders who will invest in Mbudya, Bongoyo and Sinda islands on the Indian Ocean near Dar es Salaam.

The government is currently in the final stages of the evaluation Landmark Hotels and Prime Time Promotions in a move by the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserves (DMR) to lease the uninhabited islands is to enhance tourism in the region.

According to Idelfonce Masekesa, Head of Tourism Services Department for the DMR, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is currently being conducted and will be sent to the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC) upon completion in order to be issued a certificate at which time the Attorney General will offer advice on the agreement between the government and investors.

In addition to these three islands, Hon. Masekesa has indicated that the DMR has identified investment opportunities in southern Tanzania and the government has said that it is in the process of amending current laws to incorporate fresh water islands in future investment opportunities.
