The Tanzania Telecommunication Company Limited (TTCL) has launched plan to construct new 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE), 3G and 2G networks to introduce new technology and expand mobile phone services across the country.
According to the Chief of Sales and Marketing for the TTCL, Peter Ngota, the new 3G and 4G networks will be ready by July 2015 in a move towards its 2015 goals of increasing its business by 50% over the course of the year, which will be achieved in part by expanding services to residential customers.
“Previously we concentrated on corporate customers,” he said, “but come July we want to offer 100% mobile services in the country.”
The TTCL has also just recently signed a USD 182 million contract to grow and improve its networks with the Chinese company, Huawei Technologies, and will become the only telecommunications company in Tanzania to operate both GSM and CDMA 2000 technologies.
