Tourism Confirmed Tanzania’s Main Export Sector

According to the Bank Of Tanzania (BOT) Economic Review for February 2015, in the year ending January 2015 export performance for Tanzania travel reached USD 2,045.6 million from USD 1,897.6 million, showing a growth of 7.8%.

During the same period income from gold exports reached USD 1,309.5 million, showing a sharp loss of 25.5 % in exports value.

This makes tourism Tanzania’s number one currency earner for the second year in a row.

In its 6th Tanzania Economic Update entitled “Unlocking the Potential of the Tourism Industry for Tanzanians”, the World Bank indicated that the tourism revenues for Tanzania could grow from USD 4.48 billion annually in 2013 to USD 16 billion annually by 2025.

Tanzania's exports of goods and services increased to USD 17,048.7 million in the year ending October 2025. Gold exports rose by 38.9% to USD 4,596.5 million, traditional exports improved by 25.2%, and tourist arrivals increased by 11.4% to 2,324,387, boosting travel receipts to USD 6,910.8 million.
