Ecobank Tanzania Introduce Financial Inclusion Training

Ecobank Tanzania hosted the first media training workshop on financial inclusion at the Dar es Salaam headquarters on 18 March 2013.

The workshop titled “Bank Financial Statements: What do they mean and why does it matter?” was aimed for members of the media including reporters and business editors.

The training was hosted ahead of Ecobank exhibiting their financial statements at the end of the quarter to aid the public through the media with understanding publicized statements.

The initiative is on par with Ecobank’s efforts at promoting financial inclusion and assisting Tanzanians understand the banking sector, thereby creating new markets and financial literacy for the expanding banking industry in Tanzania.

Ecobank Tanzania Managing Director Enoch Osei-Safo stated ‘We will be looking into more opportunities on training different stakeholders in the industry in an effort to increasing financial literacy  in a country with only 5% of the population with access to banking which is the lowest in the SADC region.’

The Ecobank Group network and experience across Africa is applied to the growing Tanzanian banking sector and plays a major role in financial inclusion in Tanzania.

Tanzania Tables Bill to Let Banks Accept Movable Assets as Loan Collateral, Targets 50% Credit-to-GDP by 2030

Tanzania's Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, tabled a Bill in the National Assembly in Dodoma that would let banks accept movable assets as loan collateral, creating a legal framework for registering, managing and enforcing such security interests instead of relying predominantly on land and buildings. The Bill targets an increase in private sector credit-to-GDP from 22.5% in 2024 to 50% by 2030, banking service usage from 22% in 2023 to 50% by 2030, and the financial sector's contribution to economic activity from 17.1% in 2024 to 20% by 2030.
