Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange Expands Mobile Trading Through Partnership With Tanzania’s Third-Largest Bank

NBC Bank has integrated the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange’s Hisa Kiganjani trading platform into its NBC Kiganjani mobile banking app, letting existing and new customers across Tanzania buy and sell DSE-listed shares using their National Identification Number. The partnership, launched on 26 August 2026, follows a similar DSE integration with NMB Bank’s app in July 2025 that gave more than 6 million users direct mobile access to share trading.

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) has expanded access to mobile share trading through a partnership with NBC, Tanzania’s third-largest bank, integrating the exchange’s trading platform with the bank’s mobile banking service.

The partnership, announced during a launch ceremony in Dar es Salaam on 26 August 2026, embeds the DSE’s Hisa Kiganjani app inside the NBC Kiganjani banking app.

The service reaches NBC’s existing retail banking customer base of 952,000 (as of 2025), including 270,440 mobile banking users, and allows them to trade shares without visiting a bank branch or a capital markets office.

The launch was attended by senior officials from NBC, the DSE and the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA), including the CEO of DSE, Peter Nalitolela; the Managing Director of NBC, Theobald Sabi; and the CMSA’s Director of Research, Policy and Planning, Alfred Mkombo, who represented the regulator’s Director General, Nicodemus Mkama.

Sabi said the new digital channel gives customers more flexibility to manage their investments, letting them buy and sell shares, check market information and track portfolio value securely from their phones.

He added that the collaboration is designed to remove long-standing barriers to capital markets access and to create space for more Tanzanians to participate in the investment economy.

For his part, Nalitolela explained that access does not require an existing NBC account, since new users can download NBC Kiganjani and register using their NIDA number before trading shares.

He noted that once logged into the app, customers can move directly into the DSE Hisa Kiganjani platform to purchase shares without a separate registration step.

Nalitolela further stated that the partnership could encourage Tanzanians to treat their bank accounts as tools for wealth creation rather than only as places to save money.

Mkombo, meanwhile, said the integration marks an important step in efforts to widen public participation in Tanzania’s capital and securities markets.

He added that the arrangement lets NBC customers reach the DSE from their phones at any time, addressing a common obstacle to using investment services.

Mkombo further noted that the digital channel broadens the opportunity for more Tanzanians to participate in investment and to benefit from capital markets.

He also urged NBC to pair the service with a dedicated public education and awareness campaign so that users understand both the platform and basic investment principles.

This latest partnership follows a similar DSE integration with NMB Bank’s app in July 2025 that gave more than 6 million users direct mobile access to share trading.
