Bank of Tanzania Launches Sovereign Yield Curve as Securities Market Hits TZS 32.3 Trillion

The Bank of Tanzania officially launched the Tanzania Sovereign Yield Curve on 7th August 2026, a new daily benchmark covering maturities from under one month to 25 years, developed with technical support from the US Treasury Department. Governor Emmanuel Tutuba said the launch coincides with full liberalisation of Tanzania's capital account, as the value of outstanding government securities has grown from TZS 499 billion in 2002 to TZS 32.291 trillion (USD 12.19 billion) in 2026.

Tanzania Opens Government Bills and Bonds to All Foreign Investors

The Bank of Tanzania has amended its foreign exchange regulations to let non-resident investors of any nationality purchase Treasury bills and bonds, a market previously restricted to EAC, SADC and diaspora investors. The change follows Tanzania's move to market-determined bond coupon rates and comes as domestic debt of USD 14,989.7 million makes up 29.6% of the country's USD 50,595.8 million national debt.

Tanzanian stockbroker and financial advisory firm TIB Rasilimali and law firm Breakthrough Attorneys signed an MoU to provide trust fund management and wealth advisory services in Tanzania.
