Tanzania Weekly Market Report 10 to 14 March, 2014

According to the Weekly Market Report of the trading week ending on 14th March, 2014 issued by CORE Securities, named East Africa Best Advisory Brokerage by Capital Finance International, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange total turnover decreased by -4.43% to 4,215.52 million from  4,411.11 million the previous week.

Both local and foreign investors participated in the market. Foreign Investors participated by 17.73 % while Local Investors by 82.27%.

On Friday 14th March 2014 TSI Closed at 2,904.08 (-0.32%), IA closed at 3,441.62 (+0.29%) and BI Closed at 2,634.56 (-1.58%) points.

Government Securities

Last Treasury Bills auction was done on 12th March 2014 with a total of 118 successful bids for a value of 130 trillion.

Government Bonds

A Seven year T-bond worth 2.25 & a ten years T-bond worth 5.1 billion recorded in secondary market, no T-bond for 10, 7 and 2 years recorded in secondary market.

Gold 

On Friday 14th March Closing Spot gold Price was up by +5.19% to 2.254 million per ounce (1 ounce = 31.10 grams).

Forex

On the week close Friday 14th March 1USD=TZS1,623.83 (BOT mean rate).

Inflation

The annual headline inflation rate for the month of January 2014 increased to 6.0% from 5.6% in the previous month (Decembre 2013).

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has listed the first offshore Tanzanian shilling bond on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), raising TZS 265.2 bn (USD 100m equivalent) in the largest shilling-denominated issue ever placed in international capital markets. Proceeds fund a local currency facility for NMB Bank, Tanzania's second-largest, with 20% ring-fenced for women-owned MSMEs and an estimated 13,000 to 20,000 jobs expected to be supported.
