Obtaining Construction Permits in Tanzania Set to Become Easier

The Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) has developed an initiative make obtaining construction permits easier for both local and foreign investors.

Various global reports have cited that obstructions in attaining construction permits are having a negative impact on business expansion in Tanzania.

The World Bank’s Doing Business in 2013 report cited there are 19 procedures that must be carried out to obtain a permit and the average amount of time it takes to complete the process is 206 days.

In addition to its initiative to ease the acquisition of construction permits, TPSF is also involved with the Government Roadmap on Improvement of the Investment Climate in Tanzania, which is working towards the implementation of a variety of business regulatory reforms across Tanzania.

TPSF’s director, Godfrey Simbeye, remarked that easing construction regulations is one area that needs to be dealt with for Tanzania to prosper, adding that the private sector must play a role in this process.
