Agreement for Tanzania Gas Field in Kiliwani is Almost Complete

Aminex, an Africa-focussed oil and gas company listed at the London Stock Exchange, has announced that a gas sales Agreement for the Kiliwani North gas field, offshore East Tanzania, is largely completed and should be ready for signature soon.

The announcement was made by Aminex via a press release on the 9th of January and specifies that the first commercial gas is expected to be delivered in early 2015 and will utilize a new fully financed regional pipeline system.

The agreement is being made with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) who have requested a final meeting before the agreement can be completed.

Jay Bhattacherjee, Aminex CEO, confirmed that : “The gas sales agreement is largely completed and will be executed once TPDC gives its final approval.”

Like much of East Africa, Tanzania is experiencing a boom in its oil and gas sector driven by major discoveries of natural gas by companies such as Statoil, Ophir Energy and BG Group.

Current natural gas resources in Tanzania are estimated to be 40 trillion cubic feet (tcf).
