According to CORE Securities Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) Weekly Market Report for the week ended Friday March 18th 2016, the market total turnover was TZS 4,809,870,545.

The total market capitalisation reached TZS 21,072.33 billion up by 0.007% compared to the previous week’s close at TZS 21,070.95 billion.

A total of 725,115 shares were transacted in 253 trades.

Trading activity was recorded in SWIS and TBL.

Indexes

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share Index (DSEI) closed at 2,404.09 points up by 0.007% compared to the previous week’s close of 2,403.92 points.

The Tanzania Share Index (TSI) closed at 3,901.64 points down by -4.26% compared to the previous week’s close of 4,075.22 points.

Bonds

In the bond market, there were not Treasury tenders registered during the week ended 18/03/2016.

The amounts of Treasuries offered were TZS 1 billion for 35 days, TZS 5 billion for 91 days, TZS 50 billion for 182 days, and TZS 77 billion for 364 days.

On March 18th 2016, BOT 91 days treasury bill yielded a 8.94% interest, 182 days treasury bill yielded a 17.40% and 364 days treasury bill yielded a 18.34% interest.

Interest Rate

The Bank of Tanzania (BOT) bank rate was 12.0% while the prime rate was 9.66%.

Forex

On Friday March 18th 2016, the value of the United States Dollar (USD) against the Tanzanian shilling (TZS) was USD 1 = TZS 2,168.38 (-0.004%).
