According to CORE Securities Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) Weekly Market Report for the week ended Friday January 22nd 2016, the market total turnover was TZS 15,099,530,010.

The total market capitalisation reached TZS 19,756.20 billion down by -2.17% compared to the previous week’s close at TZS 20,195.42 billion.

A total of 8,758,138 shares were transacted in 362 trades.

Indexes

The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share Index (DSEI) closed at 2,251.08 points down by -2.16% compared to the previous week’s close of 2,300.72 points.

The Tanzania Share Index (TSI) closed at 4,264.25 points down by -3.14% compared to the previous week’s close of 4,402.58 points.

Bonds

In the bond market, there were not Treasury tenders registered during the week ended 22/01/2016.

The amounts of Treasuries offered were TZS 1 billion for 35 days, TZS 7 billion for 91 days, TZS 50 billion for 182 days, and TZS 75 billion for 364 days.

On January 22nd 2016, BOT 182 days treasury bill yielded a 17.67% interest and 364 days treasury bill yielded a 18.81% interest.

Interest Rate

The Bank of Tanzania (BOT) bank rate was 12.0% while the prime rate was 13.47%.

Forex

On Friday January 22nd 2016, the value of the United States Dollar (USD) against the Tanzanian shilling (TZS) was USD 1 = TZS 2,171.01 (-0.82%).
