Tanzania Forex Update: Exchange Rates Week 36, 2020

TANZANIA FOREX EXCHANGE RATES WEEK 36 2020

On 7th of September, the BoT reported the mean exchange rates for the Tanzanian shilling (TZS) against major currencies: USD/TZS 2,297.6, GBP/TZS 3,050.1, EUR/TZS 2,722.7, CNY/TZS 336, RWF/TZS 2.37, and KES/TZS 21.22.

During week 36 of 2020, from Monday, 31st of August to Friday, 4th of September, the pairs fluctuated as follows:

  • The US dollar remained steady at 2,297.6 against the Tanzanian shilling
  • The British pound depreciated by 0.42%, from 3,059.5 to 3,046.7
  • The Euro depreciated by 0.80%, from 2,737.6 to 2,715.8
  • The Chinese yuan appreciated by 0.33%, from 334.8 to 335.9
  • The Rwandan frank remained steady at 2.37 against the Tanzanian shilling
  • The Kenyan shilling depreciated by 0.05%, from 21.22 to 21.21

  • The Rwandan frank depreciated by 1.66%, from 2.41 to 2.37
  • The Kenyan shilling depreciated by 6.07%, from 22.58 to 21.21.

Tanzania Financial Inclusion Index Rises to 0.81 in 2024 with Growth in Microfinance, Mobile Money, Digital Loans, Warehouse System, and Digital Insurance

The Bank of Tanzania Tanzania Financial Inclusion Report 2024 shows the inclusion index rising to 0.81, driven by increased access and usage of financial services. Microfinance access points grew 21.4% year-on-year, active mobile money accounts rose 17.5% to 60.75 million, digital loans doubled, warehouse system beneficiaries increased 1,178%, and digital insurance premiums reached TZS 1.4 trillion, highlighting strong growth across both traditional and digital financial services.
