According to the World Tourism Barometer Report of September 2024, Tanzania has seen a 49% surge in tourist arrivals in the period January to July 2024.
The Report is published by the World Tourism Organization and it regularly monitors short-term tourism trends to provide global tourism stakeholders with up-to-date analysis.
The Report’s information is updated several times a year and includes an analysis of the latest data on tourism destinations (inbound tourism) and source markets (outbound tourism).
In Africa, Tanzania led the surge in tourism arrivals with a 49% increase in January-July 2024 compared to the same period in 2019 (pre-Covid).
It was followed by Cabo Verde with (+34%), Morocco (+32%), and Kenya (+10%).
The African continent welcomed 7% more tourists in January to July 2024 than in the same months of 2019.
North Africa emerged as one of the strongest regions experiencing a 21% increase in international arrivals compared to pre-pandemic levels, while Sub-Saharan Africa recovered 97% of its pre-pandemic tourist arrival numbers.
Tanzania Tourist Arrivals
According to the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), in the year ending July 2024, tourist arrivals to Tanzania increased by 22% to 2,026,378 up from 1,808,205 tourists in the year ending July 2023.
The 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR) report by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) reveals that Tanzania’s travel and tourism sector experienced unprecedented growth in 2023, and the long-term outlook suggests that Tanzania’s travel and tourism sector will continue its upward trajectory.
