Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania Appoints New CEO

Standard Chartered, one of the largest banks by assets operating in Tanzania, appointed Ms Liz Lloyd as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Tanzania.

Ms Lloyd replaces Mr Jeremy Awori who was appointed new Managing Director for Kenya operation in November last year after 4 years at the head of the Tanzanian unit.

Ms Loyd was previously Group Head of Public Affairs at the bank’s global headquarter in London.

Prior to joining Standard Chartered Bank in 2007, she was Special Adviser to the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair on a number of issues, including Africa and climate change.

Ms Loyd is also Chair of Blair’s Trustees of the Africa Governance Initiative to improve governance in Africa.

According to a statement in relation to the new appointment by Diana Layfield, Standard Chartered Chief Executive Officer for Africa, Tanzania remains key to the Group’s regional and East African business, being included in Standard Chartered’s ‘7% Club’ – a list of countries with GDP growth strong enough to make the economy doubles in a decade.
