The National Bureau of Statistics of Tanzania (NBS) indicates that the Annual Headline Inflation Rate decreased to 5.1% in April 2016 from 5.4% in March 2016.
Food and Non Alcoholic Beverages Inflation Rate recorded in April 2016 has slightly decreased to 7.1% from 8.3% recorded in March 2016.
The Annual Inflation Rate for food consumed at home and away from home has decreased to 7.3% in April 2016 from 8.0% recorded in March 2016.
However, the 12 month index change for non food products has increased to 3.5% in April 2016 from 3.0% in March 2016.
The Annual Inflation Rate which excludes food and energy has slightly increased to 3.0% in April 2016 from 2.8% in March 2016.
The purchasing power of 100 Tanzanian Shillings has reached TZS 97 and 60 cents in April 2016 from December, 2015. It was TZS 98 and 11 cents in March 2016.
After a peak of 6.8% in December 2015, inflation in Tanzania has been steadily decreasing since then.
