Thailand Prime Minister Visits Tanzania

Thailand Prime Minister, Ms Yingluck Shinawatra visited Tanzania this week. She was accompanied in her visit by a delegation of Thai businesses prospecting the Tanzanian market.

 

She was welcomed by Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete for a 3 days visit aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Areas of possible cooperation include minerals, as well as tourism, infrastructure development, agriculture and energy.

In relations to minerals cutting, for which Thailand is renowned, Juliet Kairuki, Executive Director of the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) welcomed Thai companies to come and invest in cutting and polishing facilities in Tanzania. This would help in add value to tanzania minerals, she said.

The visit saw the signature of 4 Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) between Tanzania and Thailand, covering energy and natural resource development and protection of investment among other issues.

During her tanzanian trip, the Thai Prime Minister launched the Thai-African Initiative which aims at enhancing partnership between Thailand and Africa.

Tanzania to Assemble First CNG Heavy-Duty Lorry at Bagamoyo SEZ With USD 3B Chinese Investment

Tanzania is set to produce its first CNG-powered heavy-duty lorry by the end of 2026 at the Bagamoyo Eco-Maritime City Special Economic Zone, following a USD 3 billion investment commitment by HWTZ SEZ Limited, a subsidiary of China's Hongwang Holding Group. The 500-hectare facility will host over 150 industries—including motorcycle production, boat manufacturing, and spare parts—and is projected to create more than 5,000 direct jobs for Tanzanians.
