New National Park in Kagera Region

The Tanzania Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism announced that one of the current three game reserves in the Kagera region will be upgraded to National Park status.

The game reserves under scrutiny are Biharamulo (1,300 sq kms); Burigi (2,200 sq kms) and Kimisi (1,026 sq kms).

The wildlife available in these reserves includes the lions, leopards, elephants, hippopotamus, giraffes, buffalos and antelopes among other.

The Kagera region, located in the northwestern corner of Tanzania is endowed with abundant untapped tourism natural attractions which have not yet been fully exploited due to lack of adequate investments.

The region already includes a National Park situated on Rubondo Island.

The region is also rich in precious minerals such as gold and nickel.
