Tanzania and Oman Seek To Increase Trade And Identify Investment Opportunities

The Chairman of the Oman Public Authority of Investment Promotion and Export Development (ITHRAA), Salem ben Nasser Al Ismaily, recently met with Anne Makinda, Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly, to discuss strategies for increasing bilateral trade between the two countries and to identify potential investment opportunities.

In keeping with the overall export and investment strategies of ITHRAA, discussions focused on opportunities in Tanzania’s building and construction, manufacturing, technology and agriculture sectors.

According to Hon. Makinda, Tanzania is eager to work with the Government of Oman to enhance, facilitate and encourage business between the two countries and hopes to see increased investment in the country’s natural resources including agriculture and minerals.

“Tanzania has abundant agricultural products, including a wide variety of crops,” she said in an interview with a local Omani news outlet.

Hon. Makinda went on to identify the fishing industry as an emerging opportunity for investment in Tanzania with huge potential benefit both countries given the country’s largely untapped potential in fresh water fish farming and current opportunities for investment in the Tanzania trout farming sector.

“Our long historical ties should go beyond what we commonly share and the business investments is one way to strengthen these,” explained Makinda, “We look forward to Omani companies taking part in our economic development and promise a transparent business environment for the benefit of our two countries.”
