New Tanzania Banking Development Program Launched

The Tanzania banking sector has launched a new program that was designed as a Graduate Development Program in order to transform young university students into professional bankers and future leaders in the business sector.

This new program was designed and is currently being implemented by the Tanzania affiliate of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), the Diamond Trust Bank (DTB).

The DTB was established over 60 years ago as a finance house, but today it has grown into a well-developed commercial bank with a wide range of available banking services and is often seen as one of the top 10 most successful banks in the country.

The latest Graduate Development Program that is being offered by the bank was specifically designed for university graduates with a first class or upper second honors degree who have shown potential to grow and develop with the bank to the ranks of middle and senior management.

According to a DTB press release, the program is currently hosting eight young graduates who are participating in a nine month, fast track development program.

“It aims at giving them a chance to develop their leadership skills, management and business knowledge in core business areas of banking,” said the bank in their released statement.

The press release went on to indicate more specifically that the program would help to further the students’ business knowledge in the critical banking sub-sectors of Corporate and Retail Banking, International Banking, Risk and Credit Management, as well as Treasury and Branch Operations.

The program has been designed to help the trainee gain job related skills and knowledge so as to meet the Bank’s requirements for immediate and future employment needs.

“For the bank to maintain adequate skill competencies vital for effective and efficient service delivery to its customers, this program is a must,” said the bank said.

The regional bank has recognized that in order for its organization to succeed, it will require a quality, reliable and efficient employee base, which can most effectively be attained through proper training and support of it staff.

With this in mind, the DTB has designed a program to accompany the Graduate Development Program in order to further develop and hone the performances of its current employees.

In order to accomplish this feat, the bank has set aside approximately Sh 2.7 million for each of its staff as an investment into their updated workplace training and development.
