Tanzania Minister for Industry and Trade Reassures Investors About Gas Supply

Dr Abdallah Kigoda, Tanzania Minister for Industry and Trade reassured investors about the reliable supply and adequate pricing of natural gas.

The reassurance follows the concerns raised by Helm AG, who intends to invest USD 2 billion for the development of a petrochemical plant in the Mtwara region, in southern coastal Tanzania, where most of the natural gas offshore discoveries are currently being made.

The reassurance by the Minister was backed by Dr Adelhelm Meru, Director General of the Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) the agency under the ministry of Industry and Trade responsible for attracting investors to undertake processing and manufacturing activities for export purposes.

EPZA plans a Mtwara freeport zone to act as a centralized distribution center.

Accoridng to EPZA a number of companies currently providing support to oil exploration companies in the deep sea have shown interest to locate at the envisaged Mtwara freeport.

Tanzania to Assemble First CNG Heavy-Duty Lorry at Bagamoyo SEZ With USD 3B Chinese Investment

Tanzania is set to produce its first CNG-powered heavy-duty lorry by the end of 2026 at the Bagamoyo Eco-Maritime City Special Economic Zone, following a USD 3 billion investment commitment by HWTZ SEZ Limited, a subsidiary of China's Hongwang Holding Group. The 500-hectare facility will host over 150 industries—including motorcycle production, boat manufacturing, and spare parts—and is projected to create more than 5,000 direct jobs for Tanzanians.
